My wife, Linda, is a fiber aficionado. She spins fleece into yarn, she knits, weaves, sews, smocks, quilts (Traditional and Hawaiian), tats (look it up) and a few other things that I probably couldn’t name. Hence, she is the “sheep” of this travelling duo.
I, Tom, am a certified (L4) Sea Kayaking instructor, and worked for a few years with Potomac Paddle Sports. In addition, I was an instructor at last year’s Kiptopeke Kayaking Symposium (run by CrossCurrents Kayaking) and will return again this year. I am the “Yak” (get it; KA-YAK) of our appellation.
Now, you probably recognize that the annual net income for the above combined efforts could be estimated at something south of zero. I retired from my “regular job” on 30 June 2023, and Linda will (if God and the FAA HR department are willing, and one of them is showing reluctance) retire 31 July 2023. By the grace of having held “real jobs” for many years, we are blessed to pursue our passions, as listed above, in our retirement years. This leads us to the last part: “on the Road”.
To keep it concise: we have sold our home of 22 years, bought a 5th wheel RV, and we are headed out to see the North American Continent. This webpage will track what we do and what we learn over the course of our adventure. We plan to roam for at least 2 years, then we will evaluate and decide what to do next. Full disclosure: we are not completely homeless. We have had a condo in lovely Steamboat Springs, Colorado, since 1995. We expect to spend a month or two each summer and winter in that fixed site.
